Becoming a Webmaster

The following query has been received by us which is being reproduced:

I would like to know whats all a Webmaster should know about computer (applications, software etc.). Is the job taxing?
I have chances of being Webmaster of different websites.

In our opinion, the following are essential to become a successful Webmaster:

1. Knowing about various Computer Applications, Like: MS Word, MS Excel, MS FrontPage, PowerPoint, Page Maker, Photoshop, etc, etc.

2. For becoming a successful Webmaster, you have to master a lot many things. The main are: HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), PHP, MySQL, JavaScript among others.

3. Handling images and multimedia are also essential

4. Visit various Websites. You can "View Source" by right clicking and then let the same be Copied and Pasted in FrontPage or Notebook.

5. Study Books on these subjects, which is very necessary. If you wish, I can recommend a number of books.

6. Another source is to go in for Online Tutorials. For this you may visit the following Websites, among others:
